 How does it work?

The Duratech Dura Plus Heat Pumps utilise the sun’s free heat by collecting and absorbing energy from the outside air. This energy is then transferred to the koi pond water. Your existing koi pond pump circulates the water through the heater and warms the pond. The unit contains a fan that draws in outside air and directs it over the surface of the EVAPORATOR (energy collector).

The liquid refrigerant within the EVAPORATOR coil absorbs the heat from the outside air and the refrigerant becomes a gas. The warm gas passes through the compressor where it is compressed to form a very hot gas, which then passes through the CONDENSOR (water heat exchanger). It is here that the heat exchange occurs as the hot gas gives up the heat to the cooler koi pond water circulating through the coil. The pond water becomes warmer and the hot gas is cooling down as it flows through the CONDENSOR coil, returns to its liquid form and, after passing through the expansion valve, the whole process begins again.

 How does it work?

The Duratech Dura Plus Heat Pumps utilise the sun’s free heat by collecting and absorbing energy from the outside air. This energy is then transferred to the koi pond water. Your existing koi pond pump circulates the water through the heater and warms the pond. The unit contains a fan that draws in outside air and directs it over the surface of the EVAPORATOR (energy collector).

The liquid refrigerant within the EVAPORATOR coil absorbs the heat from the outside air and the refrigerant becomes a gas. The warm gas passes through the compressor where it is compressed to form a very hot gas, which then passes through the CONDENSOR (water heat exchanger). It is here that the heat exchange occurs as the hot gas gives up the heat to the cooler koi pond water circulating through the coil. The pond water becomes warmer and the hot gas is cooling down as it flows through the CONDENSOR coil, returns to its liquid form and, after passing through the expansion valve, the whole process begins again.

Duratech Dura+ Plus 22T Heat Pump are less harmful to the environment because 80% of the energy produced is collected from the outside air and therefore purely natural.

Also the gas used, R410a (DURA+) R407C (DURA), has no harmful effect on the ozone layer. The DURA heat pumps are very energy efficient, our DURA+ range even reach a COP value of 6.

Using advanced and high quality materials like PVC, stainless steel and titanium for the heat exchanger means it is resistant to corrosion through chlorine or salt. The heat exchanger is oversized to improve efficiency.

Duratech Plus Heat Pump Drip Tray Heater KitThese kits are supplied by Duratech for use in their heat pumps, but can be used in virtually any heat pump make or model

This kit contains an electric heater element that sits in the bottom of the heat pump under the evaporator (the bit with the fins).

It can be required when the heat pumps are going to be operated at very cold temperatures - below 0c, for example on koi ponds, or for indoor pools.

Our genuine Duratech Dura+ heat pumps can continue to operate down to -15c, however the normal condensate water that drips from the evaporator coil can fall to the bottom of the heat pump and freeze causing an ice build up during long spells of very cold weather.

This kit includes all parts necessary to install the kit so that any ice that forms in the drip tray of the heat pump is melted into water.

The kit includes:-

  • heater element
  • temperature controlled switch
  • all necessary wires
  • installation instructions

The temperature controlled switch automatically turns the heating element on in very cold weather and turns it off again when the temperature rises to provide a fully automatic system.

The heating element is powered from within the heat pump and therefore does not require a separate power supply.
